I’m dividing this into two parts, with a special post spotlighting the most common Skin Base shades for (South) Asian skin tones. I will also feature notes on the undertones of the Skin Base shades. For reference, the chart can be found in my review.
Illamasqua Skin Base Undertones explained and compared to MAC foundation shades: Chart available here
SB 12 (shown in upcoming (South) Asian skin tone post) – olive neutral. Great correcting shade, very golden without being too yellow. Close to NC 40, possibly 41
SB 13- olive undertone. Close to NC 43.5
SB 14-olive with a bit of red. Photo of Shahada Karim wearing (and loving) SB 14. Shahada ranges between an NC 44-45 and claims to be very yellow. Yet, this foundation adjusted to her tones despite the bit of red in it. It’s mostly olive toned.

SB 15- Deep olive with a bit of red. The undertones in this are perfect for me, especially with my slight tan in summer. When my tan sheds, I will have to mix this with neutral SB 12 for the inner parts of my face. Below is SB 15 only. Closest to NC 50. I also wear NW 43 comfortably, without my tan!

Skin Base 15
Here’s SB 15 mixed with SB 12 on the inner parts of my face:

SB 15 + SB 12 (neutral olive) on inner parts of my face
SB 16- red with a bit of deep olive. This is a near dead ringer for NW 45, possibly NW 47
SB 17- deep neutral. Don’t let this shade fool you. It can accommodate deep skin tones. My colleague Marcia (photo below) is a match for SB 17. She is also a match for Illamasqua’s Cream Foundation in CF 325. Closest SFF shade would be NW 47/48

SB 17 complexion
SB 18- deep dark neutral. A shade fit for deep chocolate goodness, but also a fantastic correcting shade to get adjust other SB colours downward. Closest SFF match would be NW 58.
These are just my personal recommendations based on what I could see when swatching. Keep in mind that not all MAC SFF shades will have an equivalent in Skin Base. MAC’s line is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. Skin Base only has 18 shades, but is really flexible. It adjust to your own skin tone (give it a few minutes) and does not oxidize to turn too pink or orangey. Once Skin Base adjusts on your face and sets, that’s the colour you’ll get for the entire time you are wearing it.
