When I’m nearly 50, I hope I look as awesome as my mother. The other day, I was looking at some old photos of me in my mid-20s. I was suddenly filled with a bit of sadness and regret (an essential component of happiness?). Those feelings weren’t about getting older, but about how much time I wasted mercilessly criticising myself and my body back then. As I stared at the photos, I thought, I looked awesome. What the hell was wrong with me?!. I decided that I’m not going to be 45 and look back at this time as a waste either. I had amazing photographer, Charles Davis, take some photos of me. My body is not an ideal weight, and my skin was stressed. But guess what?! I didn’t care. I took these photos so that when I’m even older, I can look back at myself when I was bangin’
. In fact, I think every woman should have professional shots taken at some point in their lives. Our physical self may be ephemeral, but you can preserve the memory. Don’t waste your days on criticism (dee dee dee deeee).
On to the technical info…
When applying makeup for photography, it’s important to remember the principles of light and shadows, highlighting and contouring. Additionally, one should look at products that have ingredients to soften the appearance of pores, imperfections and fine lines (i.e. silicones).
All of my photos were taken in natural light (a cemetary!), so I did not make the shadows and highlights on my face too intense. I don’t Photoshop any of the professional images taken of my work (on my website). I like to see the texture of actual skin.
Per usual, check after the break for a picture collage of this look and a full list of products

Gorgeous!! I’ve now been inspired to do the same thing. It’s always nice to look back at photos to see how much we’ve changed and grown as women.

awesome attitude and idea! i do look back on pics and think the same. i would love to think the same of right now, but i’ll take the realistic approach in my situation. =p great inspiration and gorg photos!
Aww, thanks sweetie. The older I get, the less I see the point in criticising myself so harshly. I think I did enough of that for nearly 20 years.
