I am a huge fan of makeup artist/YouTube star, Jackie O who is better known as lilpumpkinpie05. A couple of weeks ago she did a look that I absolutely loved. I thought I would recreate my interpretation of a daytime version of that look. I find that coloured eye-liner, or shadow used as liner, is one of the easiest ways to make any eye look pop. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Mostly, these FOTDs have fallen victim to me either being samey-samey with my makeup, just throwing on lipstick and heading out the door; or not having enough time to snap good photos after doing my makeup. These photos aren’t fabulous, but I wanted to get the FOTDs going again.

I brightened up my eyes with a sparkling green on the outside corners instead of all over. This way, you can keep it fairly fresh during the summer. I focused on the cheeks and lips.

Fall Trends FOTD: Orange Eyes + Lips

I’m back with another look for Fall. I have a few more to get through, but also some reviews, swatches and other looks to put up, so stay tuned. I will probably post one other Fall look this week. Today, we’re focusing on orange. You may recall that orange was also a trend for spring, and I did a short series on that. This time around, orange is being paired with other warm tones like deep yellows and browns to update it for fall. Kind of like the colour of the leaves falling off the tree. The look shouldn’t necessarily be complicated 30 minute eye looks with 6 colours. This look is sheer, but brings a lot of focus to the face. Also, easy on the eyeliner with this kind of look. Use the eyeliner softly below the lower lashes or use liner to tighline (using eyeliner on the inside rim of the upper lashes) the eyes to make the lashes look fuller. Orange is a particularly great colour to highlight features on brown skin and those with brown or blue eyes. For the former, orange tends to be one of the tones that is reflected in our complexions to some degree, particularly medium-deep brown skin. For blue eyes, orange is the natural compliment. The two together creates harmony to the eyes. If you have blue eyes, you want to steer more towards the coppery tones for fall.

FOTD: Lemon & Lavender

Saturday was such a beautiful day in Birmingham. The air was fresh, plenty of sunshine and temperatures warm enough for a light cardigan. I wanted to make sure that my makeup reflected this blissful weather. I’ve been playing a lot with complimentary colour schemes and came up with this pastel daytime look that I’m calling lemon and lavender. When yellow is paired with lavender, it creates harmony to the eye. This is why we use lavender coloured corrector to combat sallow (yellowy, dull) skin. In any case, I used the Sleek Paraguaya palette again and was sorely disappointed in how “bellini” (the frostly pastel yellow) went on. It was patchy and chalky. I can’t tell you how much of if I had to pack on!

If you are wondering about the hair, it’s a twist out done on an old braid out. I used Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to get these results.
